Mechanism of action

Seems to increase the circulating oestradiol and calcitonin concentration and thus restricts the bone resorption

Adverse drug reactions

Weight gain, hirsutism, hepatic consequences, dyslipidemia, gynecomastia, acne

Transdermal patch

Doses

5 mg patch applied to arm, back, or thigh in every evening

Testoderm (R) with or without adhesive

Doses

6 mg applied to scrotal skin every evening

Gel

Doses

5 g gel applied to shoulder, upper arm, or abdomen in every morning

Buccal system (Striant 30 mg)

Doses

Place one system in gum area twice a day

Cypionate (100 or 200 mg/mL) or enanthate (200 mg/mL) salt injection

Doses

200-300 mg IM every 2-3 weeks

Methyltestosterone (for women) injection

Doses

1.25-2.5 mg with esterified estrogen
